You get off the lift two decks above Engineering. Chief Griswold continues down. You quickly walk to Sick Bay. Once through the doors, you get the attention of one of the Medics that was preparing to aid the colony ship. A doctor and two nurses are treating an ensign from Engineering on one of the tables in the back of the room. The Medic that noticed you grabs her readied First Aid kit and follows you down to the Engineering deck.

The lift opens and the air is hot and stale on this deck. To your left is the crew quarters/deployment area for the ship's compliment of Marines. Many of the armed personnel are standing in the hall, looking towards the Engineering section. You turn to your right and are faced with the first of the two blast doors that automatically close to seal the deck in emergency situations.

You enter your code into the panel on the blast door's panel. The heavy metal door slides open and you and the Medic step through. In front of you is the closed second blast door. The first door closes as you enter your code to open the second door. The second door doesn't start to move until the first door is sealed tight.

Acrid smoke begins to fill the small space. It rolls in through the widening gap of the second door. The Medic quickly grabs a breathing mask from her kit and puts it on as you start coughing. You pull your collar over your mouth in an attempt to filter some of the smoke out of the air you are trying to breathe.

You step towards a side panel in order to activate the backup ventilation system. Before you can reach it, the panel begins to swim and spin in your vision. The next thing you know, you are hitting the ground. Behind you, you can hear the Medic trying to say something to you. However, her mask and the insistent beeping of the device in her hand are making it hard to hear her exact words. As darkness starts to fill your eyesight, you recognize a face on the floor in the smoke in front of you. Your final thought is that Chief Griswold had fallen trying to complete the same task that just claimed your life.
